Dear Ownbey Class,
We voted last Sunday to have a covered -dish supper on April 21, which is a Monday, in Jubilee Hall. Harriette will pass around a sign-up sheet on 3/30, and we will start calling those without computers within the next few weeks. Please put that date on your calendar.
On Sunday, April 27, The Ministry of Adult Education of the church is planning an Adult Sunday School Fair from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Chick, Reatha, and Don Redding, I hope, will provide the leadership. We will be asked to man the display table from 8:00 until 1:00 in perhaps 30 minute shifts. We will start asking for volunteers on Sunday.
Harriette has also arranged for a garden party at the Gossetts on either May 18 or May 25, which are Sundays. We will vote on the most suitable
date on 3/30 also.
We have only one birthday next week:

Dear Ownbey Class,
I'm so sorry that some of you are getting this twice, but about ten people didn't get the first one so I'm sending it again. Some of my e-mail addresses had vanished. I'm sure I inadvertently did something wrong. I know there is one incorrect name in the list which I will change later.

Dear Ownbey Class,
We will have class on Easter Sunday. Reatha is doing the program dressed as Mary Magdelene and speaking in character. I have seen it before, and it is very good.
We heard last Sunday that Alan Maxwell had surgery for pancreatic cancer. He came home from the hospital today and is up walking around. They do not yet know what treatment, if any, will be required. They are taking one day at a time and feel that he is better every day. Ann says they don't need anything. I'm sure they are in the thoughts and prayers of all of us.

Our own Ace Walker will be our teacher this Sunday. We look forward to his facilitating a discussion of the death penalty.

That would drive the faithful back to Bible study quicker than you can say, “May I have another?”I sampled her delicacies as the Ownbey Sunday School class held an open house to celebrate 56 years of fellowship and study, and to recruit some new blood. There is nothing wrong with the wisdom that comes with age. But, as the class agrees, welcoming a few folks who haven’t turned 70 yet might add a fresh voice to the conversation.Ann’s delicacies were only part of the recipe of affection served up Sunday by the 40 or so folks who have spent the best part of their lives in the Ownbey class. Durward Owen reminisced about Christmas caroling years ago. Chick Thompson, who helped organize Sunday’s open house, talked about the free-and-easy conversation unleashed each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. Ace Walker and Sydnor Thompson may do a lot of the teaching, but the members do most of the talking. The bulletin board filled with clippings and news of class members’ loved ones reflects the love and concern that has distinguished the class from the beginning. These good folks have grown up together, grieved together, celebrated together, searched for God together.It’s not easy drawing people to Sunday School these days, no matter the denomination or the congregation. Folks are busy. Families are distracted. Getting the faithful to a worship service is accomplishment enough. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You were wonderful with the Open House. There are so many people we need to thank individually. We will try to list some of them on Sunday.
Now we need to get the visitors back as members. I have called each one and either talked to the person or left a message on the answering machine. If you know any of them well, please talk to them about becoming Ownbey Class members.
Birthdays this week are Jean Hamrick 2/29 and Jane Gage 3/1.
The teacher on Sunday is Chick Thompson, and the book is Morality and Beyond by Tillich.
