20180325 David Dulin leads on THE HIGH PRIEST PRAYER , April Schedule

Dear SS Family,


This (Palm) Sunday, March 25th, DAVID DULIN will lead our class.  His topic is THE HIGH PRIEST PRAYER and is taken from John 17.
So please find time between then and now to read thru this scripture, and perhaps... even bring your Bible on Sunday!

A quick look ahead into April's lessons:

Apr 1st  --  EASTER  --  NO CLASS!!! 
Apr 8th  --  REATHA will lead us on a "Wired Word" topic... probably about Stephen Hawking...
Apr 15th  --  CAL will lead us again -- another chapter from the J.Ortberg book/dvd he shared the other week
Apr 22d  --  ALLYSON & STEPHEN WARE will share some sacred music w/us
Apr 29th  --  ACE WALKER will lead us in a look at the apostle Paul -- good timing... since there's a new movie in the theatres, starting this weekend!  His lesson is tentatively entitled:  "Will the REAL St.Paul Please Stand UP?"

20180325 U[date on Lesson and Clsss

Dear SS Family,


The obituary for LARRY BOOTH's mother, TRULA BOOTH, is in today's OBSERVER.
Her memorial service will be Tue (27th) at 11am at St.Andrew's UMC on Archdale, across from Montclaire Elem School.

Remember:  we will NOT meet Sunday School on Easter!!!  Enjoy one (or more) of our magnificent services or worship out of town w/family.

We had a great lesson today, led by DAVID DULIN, on the Gospel of John, specifically Ch.17, The High Priestly Prayer.  His mom, LUCIE DULIN, joined us as well  :-)

Before he started, we had a report from MARY KATHERINE VASS and the Helping Hands Committee, recommending that we continue our yearly financial support of our Haitian friend "Little Louis."  A motion was made that we accept this recommendation; vote was taken, and the motion carried.  We will also be checking w/the WORLD OF GOD organization to see if we can get an "official" update on Louis, as well as asking how much of our contribution goes directly to his scholarship and how much to the organization, if that is the case.

We postponed asking for other announcements until after the lesson, but we didn't revisit that.  So here's some news i know:
We were glad to have ACE WALKER back w/us after he and Heathy spent some time at their place in AZ.
And BOB LUMADUE sneaked in after we got started, but later added some comments during our lesson discussion.
I'd heard from LINDA MYERS that she and DON REDDING were still a bit punk, and w/the weather being so cold/nasty (for our first Sunday in spring), they made the wise decision to stay in today.
We missed CHIP BILLINGS, esp since we gave him a shout-out re his upcoming birthday...
Both PAT and FRANK CULBRETH will celebrate their 90th birthdays this week, too.  Frank is quick to point out that he married an older woman:  Pat is two days older than he  :-)
Got word from BERT LAMPLEY that DONNA and DENNIS SAVELL recently celebrated their 50th(!) wedding anniversary -- congratulations!
And Bert reminded me that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Genesis Class.  I'll start checking around the church for an exact date -- unless someone happens to remember!  I seem to recall that whenever we started, it was in a classroom in the Youth Bldg, over the gym...  Does that ring a bell w/any other charter member???

Got word last night -- thanks, Ellen -- that LARRY's mother, TRULA BOOTH, died peacefully at home yesterday, ironically just one day after Larry's birthday.  She was a member at St.Andrew UMC.

Thanks for the neat card I received earlier this week. Where do you purchase them? They are such a nice size.

I was going to miss Sunday School tomorrow and now  Linda has a cough and runny nose and not feeling ok etc and she probably will miss too. I see tje doctor again March 23, 2018 for followup on my non contagious pneumonia. Sorry we will miss.

I talked with Melvin and received his ok to record the session, and Linda was going to do it so I guess be no recording.

Hate to miss Melvin.  I have been with and enjoyed him in lots of classes he led including Disciple and one class where he put us in small groups to see which group could get cards with the names of the Bible in order the fastest. He handled  my son's funeral in Asheboro 12/05/2012 . For many years he invited the Adults Plus  members to his Lake Norman home for fun and fellowship and celebration of his June wedding anniversary. I have been a passenger  in his boat and flown in his airplane, once he told me not to worry about the red light for the landing gear as it did not work. !

He is one of the 12 people I found to say the books of the Bible from memory, and he did it around 6/21/06. See picture below for list and click here for more.  Need to add David Dulin to the list as he did it one of the times he lead  our class..
