BBQ CLARIFICATION
Our annual BBQ will be held on THU SEP 30th at 6:30pm in JUBILEE HALL at the CHURCH. The cost is $10, and if you pay by CHECK, please make it payable to THE OWNBEY CLASS, putting BBQ and the number of meals on the MEMO line. We also accept cash :-)
Shebra needs our numbers by Fri Sep 17th. If you haven't signed up in Sunday school, you may call the Copelands, There's an envelope for payment on the sign-up clipboard, or you can wait and pay at the door.
If you are in town this weekend, I hope you'll join us in class where I'll be leading our lesson on the Book of Philemon. It's only one chapter in length, an easy read, and I encourage you to read it before coming to class. In it, Paul is writing to Philemon (and also the church which meets in his home) on behalf of his runaway slave Onesimus.
Hope to see you then!Peace,

Don Beissenger and also SOA , phone committee, BBQ dinner will be held on Thur Sep 30th, 6:30pm, in Jubilee Hall.

Dear Ownbey Family,
1.  Perhaps some of you did what I did after Chick's intriguing lesson Sunday -- I googled Don Beissenger and also SOA (School of the Americas).  I found a good website to peruse:    You can also find info on Wikipedia -- just keep in mind that we ARE talking internet, so... take it with a grain of salt.
I also read some more about Oscar Romero -- trying to find out if anyone was convicted in his slaying, and if so, what sentence he/they received, and... if there were a connection to any SOA alumnus.  The way I read it (on Wikipedia), there was no direct connection... just and indirect trail.
2.  Fall Class Social -- Our annual BBQ dinner will be held on Thur Sep 30th, 6:30pm, in Jubilee Hall.  Shebra will be preparing our meal.  Cost:  $10 - payable to the Ownbey Sunday School Class  ASAP.  We began a sign-up sheet this past Sunday and will continue it for several weeks.  You can also call the Copelands, 704 xxxxx.  Shebra would like our count by Sep 17th.
3.  Speaking of calling...  We USED to have a phone committee...  What happened to that?  Would anyone care to serve on one?  (Or did you think you still WERE serving on it and just not getting assignments?)  We have 10-15 class members who do NOT have email, so a 2-3 person committee could easily handle any calls.  It would help if the committee members HAVE email so they could get the info and then make their calls.
Interested in helping w/this?  Just let me know  :-)Peace,Reatha - Tue - 6am
Pray for our sister congregation at South Tryon Community Church, and plan to support their barbecue fundraiser for Haiti this Saturday, beginning at noon at the church, 2516 S. Tryon Street. Barbecue plates for $7 will include barbecue, baked beans, slaw and a slice of cake.
Dear Ownbey Class,

Our fall social/dinner will be held on Thurs Oct 29th, 6pm, at the home of ANN and JACK COPELAND, 2044 Sherwood Ave. Our social chair, HARRIETTE THOMPSON, said that the cost will be (only) $10 this year. You may write a check to SYDNOR THOMPSON or pay cash. There should be an envelope on the sign-up clipboard this Sunday and next. If you can't get to SS either time and have not yet signed up, simply contact Harriette at 704-

The curric. comm. met last night and mapped out lessons thru Jan, 2010. I've not yet been successful in getting them posted on our class website -- tricky wifi connection -- but hope to do that soon.

H&H update
We now have a Care Team in place for DOTTIE TOBIAS. Volunteers visit her 3x a week, giving BILLY a chance to get out, meet w/a client, and get other things done. Those who have visited w/her report that she's in good spirits and progressing extremely well since her stroke back in July.

Some other folks have had good visits w/MEL HALPERN at Sunrise on Randolph. Cristina was in class on Oct 4th.

Any other news?

Peace,
Reatha - Wed - 7am
