Subject: Ownbey Class - President's MESSAGE Date: Thursday , 29 Apr 2010 10:18:24 EDT From: Willard To: Ownbey Class Hi folks Thanks to Reatha for the lesson last week and for reminding us of the need for looking after God's Creation by our own actions. It was a timely message and the point well made. We were glad to have Isabel Shankle visit us for the second week. Please make her feel welcome when you see her. The lesson this week is God and Golf, led by your President. It is based on a sermon by Dr. John Redhead, a long retired Presbyterian minister of First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro. I think you will enjoy some of his thoughts. Upcoming lessons : May 9 -- Book: EINSTEIN'S GOLD, by Krista Tippett, led by Don Hammer May 16 -- Book: THE FUTURE OF FAITH (pt.2), by Harvey Cox, led by Lou Bledsoe Also, be thinking if you have poems or readings for our July 4 class. Tell Don Hammer.

On class this week, we will talk about our social world and discuss some ideas for fun as a Social Event. We might even take a vote if there are enough ideas. Having done that I hope we can select a Social Chair or at least a leader for the event. Please bring your ideas. There have been several meetings on the Sanctuary Renovation. One of the points being made is that we normally would have paid for much of the the renovation with money from earnings on the Wesley Fund, but the earnings are not there now and we hope to get the money from members with payments by year end. If you can help, please write your check or commit to help. Remember to keep Reatha informed of any Health and Happiness news. Let Tom Stinson know of Helping Hands needs. Also, keep the family of Reatha's cousin, Rick Adams, in your prayers. Lastly, notice on our blog a poll to "vote" on the ease of use of the Blog. Viewership is increasing, and we want to be sure it meets your needs. If you do not like the Blog, please let us know your preference or suggestions for good communications. Thanks. Subject: Ownbey Class - President's MESSAGE Date: Thursday , 22 Apr 2010 10:18:24 EDT From: Willard To: Ownbey Class Hi folks Thanks to Ace Walker for the lesson last week. Obviously he did a lot of preparation and covered several complicated issues (Paul, justification, faith, grace, works, etc) well in a short amount of time. Then again all of our teachers do thorough jobs. The new Lesson Schedule is out and copies may be found in our classroom or on the web site and blog. The lesson this week is CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION, led by Reatha Andrew. Earth Day is today, Thursday April 22. Next week Yours Truly will lead us in GOD AND GOLF. There are several meetings scheduled to discuss the more than half a million dollar renovation of our wonderful Sanctuary. One was 6:30 p.m. Wednesday 4/21/ (after Hot Wednesday meal). Others will be around 12 noon on Sunday 4/25 and 7:00 p.m. Tuesday 4/27 - all in the Sanctuary. Please keep Reatha informed of any Health and Happiness news. Let Tom Stinson know of Helping Hands needs. Thanks to Harriette Thompson, Lou Bledsoe, and Bob Lumadue for their help over the years leading our music and singing. Let them know if you have favorites you would like for us to use. Lastly, please let us know if you have comments or suggestions for what should be included in my MESSAGES, the Web Site, or the BLOG; we will try to accommodate you as we work to communicate effectively to the class. Subject: Ownbey Class - President's MESSAGE Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2010 18:18:24 EDT From: Willard To: Ownbey Class Ace Walker is our teacher this Sunday. The Curriculum Committee had a great meeting this week. Don Hammer provides great leadership. As you know, from the lessons provided, a lot of thought goes into the planning (and the execution). Request: I have been derelict in not tracking down a Social Committee chair person. Need a volunteer. See you Sunday. Willard
Dear Ownbey folks, (I have heard from 11 people by 3:30, thanks, keep um coming . .) Willard asked me to send his OWNBEY MESSAGE until we get the bugs worked out on his distribution list.
Please help us by replying back to me to: 1>Confirm you received this OWNBEY MESSAGE email. 2>Tell me whether or not you want to receive the MESSAGES in the future. 3>Tell me if you want to be removed from all mailings. 4> Advise me of any changes in addresses or other info we need for the class. I will get to the correct person. (If I do not hear from you I will assume something is wrong in the distribution and will contact you by phone, etc, so save us both some time and write back. thanks.)
Periodically feel free to check our official web page for lots of Ownbey information. (Click Here). and Periodically feel free to Check our Unofficial Blog (Click Here) for copies of all MESSAGES and other info and links about Ownbey Life. Let me know if you cannot get the links to work or if you need the username and password. Thanks Don 3/30/2010 2:30 p.m.
Below from President Willard Gourley is the OWNBEY MESSAGE for the week ending Sunday April 4, 2010: Don Redding is acting as my courier. After having finally prepared a proper mailing list, my AOL system has put a block on the entire message because of a person who was on my mailing list and is no longer and AOL is saying their mailbox is full and, therefore, will not send it to the balance of the class. Don volunteered to take my message and send on to the class.
Don Hammer has the lesson for this Sunday. He will use selected Easter stories.
I hope all of you saw James Howell's article in Sunday's paper titled "Has rancor become unbeatable foe? His message was great and I particularly use of the beginning words of the song from the Broadway musical "The man from La Mancha". TO DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM, TO FIGHT THE UNBEATABLE FOE, TO RIGHT THE UNRIGHTABLE WRONG...TO TRY WHEN YOUR ARMS ARE TOO HEAVY. ETC.
I will be seeking out a vocalist who might lead us in song. I believe that would be too much of a challenge for Lou B. Look forward to seeing you Sunday. Willard 3/30/2010
Subject: Fwd: Ownbey President short message Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2010 21:57:30 EDT From: Reatha Andrew And perhaps you folks don't need this reminder, but I do: We return to DST overnight Sat-Sun, so spring forward! (and lose an hour of sleep...) We don't want to miss our Fearless Leader's lesson :-) ra - th - 10pm -------------------------------------------------------------- I am hoping that this effort is an improvement over my past ones. It's a combination of one of Reatha's mailing lists and additions from me shown as receiving copies. Room-in-the-inn tomorrow night. And Sunday, Gourley is the teacher - Righteousness - be prepared. Wish me luck (obviously if most of you receive I will have been lucky.) thanks in advance. Willard G.

Well, the first part of the doubleheader has been canceled. Only one church service tomorrow. No Sunday School.
Will leave it to Don Hammer to orchestrate the teaching schedule.
Stay warm. Move around very carefully. No broken bones, please.

Plan to be present Sunday. We have a doubleheader beginning this week with Sydnor on "The Other Preacher from Lynchburg" and following next week with Chick on "The Human Faces of God". Hope to see you Sunday. Have been house bound all week with major cold, not quite flu, but unwilling to share my germs with others, particularly my fellow Habitat office folks. E-mail should be germ proof. Willard
