September 22, 2013,
lead class beginning with reading of some poetry.Don H , Bob L and Jim lead us with the reading other poems. Here is info from Reatha about the class:
Dear Ownbey Family, Tomorrow's (9/22) lesson is one of our favorite things: poetry :-) Don H. and Bob L. take the lead in this, but we are EACH encouraged to bring a(some) favorite poem(s) to share. And we not limited to only spiritual or "deep" poems -- light-heartedness is embraced as well. Of course, you can also draw from Biblical poetry -- perhaps you have a favorite Psalm -- maybe a "fresh" translation of favorite JKV verses. If you'd like to call Don (704.) or Bob (704.) about any of this, please do. Tomorrow Twala will be "attending to business" while i'm in Troutman, attending Homecoming at my childhood church. Next Sunday, Michelle Shrader, our Missions Minister, will join us to share her Journey of Faith and talk about missions that we are involved with thru our church. Peace, Reatha - Sat - 9am

September 08, 2013, Ace's Moral Imagination.
Reatha started class by a saying "be a Fountain and not a drain (I had it as dream and could not get it!) 09/18 Luther Wade tells Adults Plus about the Crusades and 9/26 Don Hammer's Guns in America study begins for 8 weeks. Sign up for both. Comment made "how appropriate,. with the child shooting and killing step father after she was shown how to use a gun. The Clip was removed but a bullet was in the chamber . "Glad to see Chick after his stint operation. (Email From Reatha before class) Dear Ownbey Family,1. Our lesson this week will be led by ACE. His topic is "Moral Imagination" from Rober Wright's book EVOLUTION OF GOD. 2. Our class-led discussion on various "Common Good" topics last Sunday worked so well that neither Don nor i had time to introduce our two articles! This success will undoubtedly lead to other such lessons 3. And... finally: the follow-up to Durward's lesson from the other week! Read 2 Timothy 4: 6-7 Assume you are leaving Charlotte, and at your last Sunday in our class, you are to give a short speech describing your personal faith values. Write it down and practice it until you know it "by heart." Read Proverbs 13:22 Write a letter to your children, g'children, best friend, etc.
A suggested outline: A. Values by which i have lived B. Suggestions on how your loved ones can find faith values of their own C. Don't go thru life alone... w/o a network of believers D. Develop a life and career where your passions and needs of others are merged E. Find joy in your life (remembering that God and others love you unconditionally)This outline is but my (Durward's or the author's) example to make the point. The purpose is JUST DO IT! And do it over and over till you think it is complete. WHAT TO DO W/BOTH AFTER COMPLETED Whatever you want to However, they should be in someone's hands who is expected to live longer than you... or distributed to "all" now. The call is yours to make. [However, it would be a shame, after all this work, to do nothing!] Any questions? Contact Durward,
September 01, 2013, Individual Class menberbs Lead
Reatha began class with a reading of a Jewish prayer in honor of Ramayana . .Power to observe the beauty of your life. . . (I will get this late) Mentioned September was our largest birthday month. Several missing members were visited ot conversed with including Dottie, Ellen, Janie J, Janie P. Reatha discussed the resolution of the trial for the murder two years ago of Richard H's son. Last week the Jury was picked Monday, prosecution on Tuesday and Wednesday, defense Thursday, jury met 90 minutes Friday and found him guilty and the judge sentenced the defendant to life plus 40 years. The defendant was a friend of Richard's son and lived in same neighborhood and the son caught him in the process of robbing his house and the robber shot and killed the son. Following on that information, Don H mentioned a class he will be teaching on Guns in America; several of us took the first run of this class (then called Violence In America) a couple months ago. (Hard stuff but good stuff to make you think, I think!). Dom elaborated to say it will be expanded from 7 to 8 weekly meetings and will be objective factual, with discussion on What is the situation on Guns in America and what can we do. For the lesson, Individual class members made presentations about articles Don H had distributed last week on People who make a Difference. We had a good time and good discussion. Don said we will consider repeating this format.
