Calendar-challenged Reatha here...

So i got all the dates/numbers correct in the list of July b'days  :-)

But what i messed up were the days of the week!!!

Perhaps you can tell what happened:  i forgot to turn the calendar page, so...

We had a GRAND time last Sunday when The HOWARDS led a rollicking game of Bible Trivia!

Reatha,

I will teach/lead Genesis-Ownbey this coming Sunday, July 1, 2018.  The subject or title of the lesson will be "Paul, Corinth, and the Corinthians."  It will be with a heavy emphasis on Paul.  I suggest that class members will take the time, if they can, to at least glance through Paul's two (2) letters to the Corinthians - First Corinthians and Second Corinthians - before Sunday morning.  Thank you.

Happy to announce that Gaye was released from the hospital this afternoon. 
We still don't know the results of the small intestine test, but she sees the lung doctor Monday and will probably find out then. Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers.

Subject: Gaye had to be taken to the hospital yesterday...  

...because she couldn't take 10 steps without getting out of breath.  She was found to be anemic, and they gave her a blood transfusion.  She was put in ICU, and they did an endoscopy to find the source of the bleeding.  (She had already had a colonoscopy on Monday.)  The endoscopy was clear, so then she had to swallow the capsule camera that will take thousands of pictures.   

She is feeling better after the blood transfusion and could possibly go home tomorrow depending upon the results of the small intestine pictures.

20180610 Chan Martin discusses possible site plans

Chan Martin did class today about future plans on how to make our complex larger.  He said they considered but rejected enlarging the sanctuary, building on the parking lot across the street.  This isn’t saying that stuff won’t happen someday but it in’t what they are seeking right now.  They are pretty far along with zoning approvals but not there yet.  What they (we) are looking at is tearing down the Youth Building and building it up 80 feet (5 stories).  One story is basement.  He said youth were left out of plans in our last expansion, many parents are disappointed in their kid’s church surroundings, maintenance charges are growing due to age of the building (it needs a new roof right now), and nobody knows how to get to it because it is virtually inaccessible without going outside,.

Yesterday came and went without a lot of changes. I arrived at the hospital this morning and mom seemed to be doing better. She is still sleeping a lot, but her kidneys are seemly working as they were before the surgery.  They have moved her to eating some solid food.  The food at the hospital is not all that appetizing, but she has been able to eat small bites.  

Spoke to the doctor today and I believe she may be moved to a rehabilitation facility hopefully Monday or Tuesday.  Greg and Margaret visited one of the facilities and not only liked it, but it has very high rating. Will have to pull some miracles to get her in since they are full right now, but actively working on some options.  She will probably be in the rehabilitation facility for 1 - 2 weeks.

20180608 Reatha Info update

Dear SS Family,

Below you will find a note from CHAN about his topic for this Sunday's lesson.  Hope you can come and hear his update from this important committee.

In class last Sunday, CAL asked:  "What IS Social Justice?"  So i googled the term and found a nice definition and history

lesson on Wikipedia -- go, John Wesley!  I also went to www.umc.org to learn more about UMC's stance.  At the top tabs on their homepage, i found helpful info under "What We Believe" and "How We Serve - Advocating for Justice."  If you find some time, i'd suggest your reading those.

Haven't heard any more from LAURA re WILMA, so i'm guessing things are about the same.  Will contact her later today/night.

Oh, we've had 6 more folks sign up for Summer Supper at Trio's this coming Wednesday:

That brings our total, so far, to 17.

[i'm still not sure if i'll be coming to these -- i'm on Mimi Duty w/Virginia this summer, and Wed nights are late ones for Amanda's job, so... might be a bummer for me]

Reatha, I am going to take a different tack this Sunday.

As you know I have been the chair of the Building Feasibility Committee for the past few years, and we have recently shared some of the results with small groups as we try to think about what we could do on our campus.  On Sunday I plan to discuss the process and show some visuals of what we have at this point.  Hopefully, this will be of interest to everyone.
