Update from Reatha Health and Happines (Various)

Subject: Ownbey H and H
Date:7/26/2011
From:Reatha
To:Class

Dear Ownbey Family,
I have updated our webpage on the church website www.mpumc.org/ownbey in all areas, including H&H (leaving out addresses, etc).
HEALTH
1. CAROL D has been on oxygen for almost 8 wks now. Last wk she also called in Hospice. I talked w/Don H this morning -- he said that she is now becoming "confused." Cards (and prayers) are the best thing we can do now. Ann C is taking her soft foods like smoothies and thick soups, and she will let us know if she needs any help.
2. NANCY S had knee replacement surgery last month. She would appreciate cards and prayers. One of her daughters lives w/her + a PT has been working w/her.
3. BARBARA B is waiting for a date to go to Duke for more tests. They still don't know what caused her heart attack last month and continues to cause her overall malaise. Husband .... is enjoying his new role as a pastor in ..... Son .... is doing well this summer, working on a reservation out in OK.
4. You can keep up w/the latest on ELLEN R by going to .
5. And don't forget to send cards to ELLEN C and JANE P.
HAPPINESS
1. HARRIETTE and SYDNOR  moved out to The Cypress last week. Harriette calls it "paradise."
[keeping their "old" ph # ]
2. BETTY C has moved out to Wilora Lake Lodge, mainly due to her glaucoma. Since the distance to the church from there is rather far (it's near Eastland Mall), and since they offer Sunday services there, Betty has chosen to become a "SS member in absentia." I suggest we keep in contact w/her and offer to bring her to special events we have... IF we can work it out. Don't know her room/phone number yet, but...
3. Speaking of moving... VIRGINIA and WILLARD will be moving to Sharon Towers on Sep 1.
4. TWALA's daughter is getting married in NYC this coming weekend.
5. And if you'd like to see new photos of baby Virginia (my granddaughter), just REPLY to this email, and I'll send you a few new shots. Or ask me on Sunday -- I've finally gotten a phone which has a camera :-) Claire, my sister, was in town (from VA) this past weekend, and we had fun visiting w/Virginia, Amanda, and Jon.
Any other news?
Take care, Reatha - Tue - 3pm
PS: I'll be sending out some info about upcoming class lessons in another email.

01/13/2010 Lesson Schedule through April 25, 2010

Lessons January 24 - April 25
Dear Ownbey Family,

After our Curriculum Meeting last night, I was able to use the church library computer and post our lessons for Jan - April.
Simply go to our website <www.mpumc.org/ownbey>
Look across the top bar on our homepage and find UPCOMING SS LESSONS. Click on that.
The listings which have question marks are those which (obviously) are still being tweaked.
PRAISE: we got word yest'y that TWALA (KRUGER) is doing well enough that we will be disbanding her official Care Team after this week :-)
Peace and Blessings,
Reatha

Ownbey H&H Report From: Reatha Andrew Sent: Sat 1/2/2010 5:06 PM Subject: Ownbey H&H Report Dear Ownbey Family, Got this message from ELLEN CHASON... -------------------------------------------------------------- I will not be in class this Sunday. Pacemaker being replaced Tuesday. Doctor wanted to do it Dec. 23, but I told him I was leaving town. I am now so exhausted all the time that it is difficult to walk to the dining room. I'll be so glad to get it fixed and feel like a "real person" AGAIN! Happy New Year to all. Ellen _________________________________________ Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Called Twala today. She didn't need errands run. Daughter had borrowed her car to go down to the coast to visit some friends but was returning later today. She flies back to NY tomorrow. OH - one thing: Twala would like to find a home for her part-wild kitty. She thinks that she would make a good barn cat. I'm gonna check w/some friends in Troutman who live out in the country, but if any of you have other contacts, just let me know! Any other news? Hope to see you in the morning when DON HAMMER leads our lesson. Be sure to bundle up!!! Reatha - Sat - 6pm
Dear Ownbey Family,

As we did for Dottie, we are asking for volunteers for a Care Team for Twala. See Ann's note below.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Twala is having her (other) hip replaced on Tuesday. We are looking for a few (maybe 5) folks to help with meals and errands when she comes home. I hate to ask your class again!! You have been so good to help. This is a short term team. Maybe through February. We have 4 people already. Email me any names after you meet on Sunday. Thanks for your help.
Ann Edwards

Since not all our members have email access, I will also talk about this in class Sunday. But in the meantime, if you would be interested in helping in this effort, please email me.

Thanks so much!
Reatha -

Dear Ownbey Family,

Got this good news from CAROL (DOUGLAS.)

TWLALA KRUGER'S (hip replacement) surgery was originally scheduled for Dec 22, and she was dreading the wait due to the increasing amount of pain and discomfort she's been experiencing.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Twala got her surgery date moved to December 8, the day of our Christmas party. She is managing ok at this point. Carol D.

Also LINDA (MYERS) and DON (REDDING) took a 7-1/2 foot artificial tree over to McCreesh Place yest'y to the utter delight of RICHARD HARRISON. Thanks so much!

Peace,

Reatha Andrew wrote: Dear Ownbey Family, In class Sunday, I mentioned TWALA KRUGER's problem w/her "good" hip... which has quickly become her "bad" hip. Looks like she'll be needing surgery on it soon. The surgery on her other hip was so successful earlier this year that we can only hope that this 2d hip will fare as well. And DON HAMMER told us that CAROL DOUGLAS had gone to the hospital due to severe ear pain on Saturday. Here's her response when I wrote, asking how she was doing: -------------------------------------------------------------- My ear and sinuses are better. The antibiotic is working. I have a bone marrow biopsy procedure this morning (Wed.) No fun. TWALA's hip problem has accelerated. She saw the surgeon who did her other hip, and he said it was almost an emergency situation and that she needs the surgery QUICK. Most hip problems develop over time, but hers has progressed quite quickly. The doctor sees a couple of cases a year like this. Twala is in a lot of pain. I'll try to keep you posted on her situation, but it is evolving rapidly. Carol D. _________________________________________ And later I got an update about her bone marrow biopsy: she had to go to the hospital to undergo some treatments for her multiple myeloma. She expects to return home tomorrow (Fri.) And remember DOTTIE -- I haven't called since last Friday when I talked briefly w/BILLY, but I'm hoping that LARRY got here ok on Saturday. DOTTIE TOBIAS I also ask that you remember me today... as I drive up to Lake Junaluska later this aft'n (after my preschool day is over... when I usually come home and nap!) for our Adults PLUS retreat. Hopefully some of you will also be there :-) Take care, everyone! Reatha

05/24/09

Dear Ownbey Family, New notes and updates on some of our folks... -------------------------------------------------------------- (from Wilma Miller on Th. May 21) Reatha, I had a call today from BOB JOHNSON in Nashville giving me some sad news about his and Elizabeth Anne's daughter NANCY, who lives in Winston Salem. (By the way, Elizabeth Anne died on May 12 of last year, so Bob is still grieving over losing her.) Nancy has not been feeling well for several months, and after taking her to several doctors in Winston Salem, they have learned that she has numerous tumors up and down her back. He said that two of the tumors are very near the brain stem and all are cancerous. They have been trying to shrink the tumors with radiation. Nancy is on morphine and is allowed no visitors except immediate family. I asked about sending cards to her in the hospital, and he said she would appreciate cards, but to send them in care of his other daughter, Carol. (They may move Nancy into a Hospice unit.) The address is as follows: Miss Nancy Johnson c/o Mrs. Carol Winn 8015 Deverow Court Lewisville, NC 27023 Wilma [and here is Bob's info: Bob Johnson McKendree Village 29 Asbury Ct Hermitage, TN 37076-2163 ____________________________________________ On Wed. Susan Mobley visited TWALA KRUGER after her hip replacement surgery on Tue. She was doing well, but will need some help in running errands over the next few weeks, probably once/twice per week. Now that preschool is over, I can help. Do I have any other volunteers? [I'll see if we have any takers during Sunday school today and send out an update later.] Just email or call (704.552.2378) me. THANKS! Susan also told me that she had visited HARLAN CREECH on Tue. at Asbury. He will be staying there or in their Memory Care Unit. He is still very confused, has fallen a few more times, and presently has a black eye from one of his falls. It is especially rough for sons, DAVID and TIM, because he's "just not their dad"... They now have someone staying w/him 24/7. Cards would be greatly appreciated -- not only for Harlan but also for the "boys." Harlan Creech (David and Tim) 8041 Shiney Meadow Lane CLT * 28215 KEN BUKER had no problems getting his stitches out this past Wed, after his tumble on May 14 (when he broke his nose.) However, he and ANNE decided that they would NOT go to their mountain house this weekend, so if you'd like to call and chat --> 704.333.0921. Saw WILLARD and VIRGINIA GOURLEY at H.O.T. Wed meal this past week, so they are now out and about. Yea! And I am grateful for the kindness of strangers. Last night around 7pm, I came out of Michael's on South Blvd. only to find my front left tire going flat. Long story, short: while I was calling AAA, a couple stopped to help -- they had seen my emergency flashers.. The husband took off my flat, put on my "donut" spare (which also needed air, but that's Part 2 of my story), and I'll be able to get to church this morning. Whew! Hope this finds everyone else doing well. Peace, Reatha - Sun - 5:15am
