This Week (04/29/2012) Anne L started class with a prayer. Her readings emphasized "to grow in Humility, grow in your own appreciation of God's Awesomeness." Birthdays this week: Nancy S (4/30) Chick (May 3) and Don R(May 5). Memo from Cristine Mull to let her know if changes in our SS meetings in the Summer. Connie and Durward not here as sick after trip to Alabama. Don R at Durward's request reported on the plans for the Museum Tour on Saturday May 26 and asked folks to sign up. We signed 2 more and we have 15 people. Durward needs to know in time to call Monday 4/30. Arlyne has a new grand daughter in Rhode Island; have pictures of cat and baby admiring each other. Jim and Nancy somewhere near Nova Scotia. Jack said Anne C home Sunday a few hours and for good Tuesday 5/1. Anne and Ken at the Beach. Tom S a little under the weather. Don R received a call from Betty who was asking about Janie and Anne C; Betty continues to have pain walking and hopes a cortisone shot Thursday (5/3) will relieve some of it. Bob L lead us in hymns 384 (Love Divine) and 514 (Stand Up Stand Up)

Future Lessons : Reatha reported " The Curric. Comm. met last Tue night and lined up lessons thru July. Don H is tweaking a few things, and i'll send out the list as soon as i hear back from him. In the meantime, Don H will lead our class Sunday week (May 6th) in discussing the U.Meth. General Conference, esp the "Call to Action" plan."

Last Week (04/22/2012) Jim started the class with a prayer and a reading from Jesus Calling. Plans still on to go to the Levine Museum May 26 but tour guide cancelled because needed 21 and only 12 signed up so far. Come on guys, Durward is working hard for planning outings and he needs support. I wish we would have a tour guide because I have been there on my on and I wanted some guidance .Please call him and sign up soon so he can make plans. Announcements included Pot Luck Lunch on June 3 in Jubilee Hall. Perspectives on a Trip to Holy Land Tuesday May 15 ($7) by Sommer Hammick . Melody Makers from Matthew Methodist Church on 5/16 ($5) at Adults Plus! . Dan the Pig Man recent Adults Plus! program was most interesting, someone from the class mentioned. Check it out at at this Link. Youth Groups putting on Good Man Charlie Brown tonight. Curriculum meeting is Tuesday night, all welcome. Tom Stinson not in class - out of town to attend the memorial service for his sister-in-law, Judy's sister, in Tuscaloosa. .Nancy and Jim be gone next two weeks on trip to Nova Scotia. Working on some arrangements for Janie Jones to help get out and William W (Summit Place) to class at times. Ann C doing "pretty good" with three hour therapy a day. Can have visitors now. Don R told of James' Monday night April 16 discussion on the upcoming General Conference of the Methodist Church to be held in Tampa soon. It is "required info" for all Methodists, I think, as we face many issues including declining membership, aging clergy, growth of pensions and medical care, growth with young folks not accustomed to making financial support, and small church size (medium Methodist churches have less than 107 members. Audio and pictures and reports on Blog at 20120416 General Conference Preview Don mentioned we are asked to take cards found around the church with the names of delegates (988) to the Conference and we are to pray for the name on the card. Birthdays: Janie Jones (4/26) and Robin Funderburk (4/19). Bob L led us in hymns 369 and 472.
I would like to add a PS. Attendance was 17 this week and in the low 20's last week. Attendance has been going down at the Ownbey Sunday School Class; I know we have lots of sickness and issues, legitimate excuses and otherwise, etc, but Ownbey needs more support by our presence - am I wrong we can make it a higher priority? Let me know if I am. We will lose our wonderful class (size) room (as did Fellowship recently) when they reallocate I am afraid the way it is going. And I doubt many of us are interested in merging with another class (As did Snyder and the Woman's Class). Our teachers need our support for the hours of preparation they put into each lesson and more than 17 of us need to be there.

Dear Ownbey Family, .....click for her full email 1. I'll be leading our lesson tomorrow, continuing our study of ROMANS. If you get a chance, read Romans 8:9-17, w/16-17 being the "core verses." Also I'd like us to sing BLESSED ASSURANCE (to align w/the lesson) as our first hymn. 4. Our class' curriculum committee will meet this Tue night at 7pm in our classroom. If you have any suggestions, you may attend the meeting or share your ideas w/Don Hammer, Barbara Barden, or me.
