Dear SS Family,
This Sunday, SUSAN SAYRS will present pt.2 (of 6) our dvd-study of JOHN - THE GOSPEL OF LIGHT AND LIFE, by Adam Hamilton.
We will continue this series throughout June -- yes, we WILL continue to meet, for those of you who can come. I'll be leading the discussion those Sundays (unless someone would like to volunteer for one of the weeks).
On the first Sunday in July, we'll meet in Francis Chapel for a church-wide presentation by Rev. Sam Om, our Cambodian missionary friend.
If anyone would like to lead one or more lessons Jy 9 - Aug 13, just let me know. We'll be lining up topics/leaders over the next few weeks (hopefully).
Last Sunday evening, MARY KATHERINE VASS, ROBIN HEARN, and i attended the Sunday School Leadership meeting. [I was really heartened that we had such good support for our class... since there were only 8 other folks there!]
ANYway, here a few things to be aware of:
1. During the summer there will be NO Sunday School for youth or children (except childcare and preschool). Families will be encouraged to worship together. So IF you notice more kids in worship, be encouraging of them -- maybe offer to share a hymnal, point to the words if they are beginning readers, etc -- at the very least, SMILE!
2. Back to School Sunday will be Aug 20th. We're suggesting that ALL SS classes make an effort to welcome folks back, and especially, welcome VISITORS. One thought is to also call it Open House Sunday -- we might offer some goodies, share fellowship, and have a planning session where we map out suggestions for upcoming lessons, have Presiding Officer sign-ups, etc.
3. In light of that, all classes are being asked to write a class description. [That's especially important for us since we are now a "blended" class.] After the meeting ended, we three stayed a bit, tossed around some ideas, and crafted the following over the next few days via emails. Let me know what you think. We can also discuss it some more in class. If we get a majority approval, i'll send it to Christine as our "official description."

The Genesis-Ownbey Class welcomes everyone to its fellowship. Currently we
have members in their 50s and older.
Lessons employ an "open" approach to curriculum, exploring a number of
relevant topics led by class members or guests who use a variety of
resources -- books, videos, scripture, lectionary, focused study -- which
prompt lively and meaningful discussion. Recent classes featured works by
various authors such as Matt Rawle, N.T. Wright, and Adam Hamilton.
We value the fellowship and community fostered by our class, our church,
and how we can extend this love to the larger community of our city, our
nation, and our world by means of local and global missions.
