2011.03.06 Ace teaches "I am"

Dear Ownbey Family, ACE WALKER will be leading our lesson this week.  Please read what he sent to me to share w/you in preparation for the lesson:

THE "I AM" SAYINGS OF JESUS IN JOHN'S GOSPEL
These are the "I am" sayings of Jesus which appear in the Gospel of John:

• I am the bread of life. (6:35)
• I am the light of the world. (8:12)
• I am the door for the sheep. (10:7)
• I am the good shepherd. (10:11,14)
• I am the resurrection and the life. (11:25)
• I am the way, the truth, and the light. (14:6)
• I am the true vine. (15:1)

Between now and Sunday, please consider what these sayings mean to you and whether you believe they were actually uttered by Jesus or were instead the gospel writer's affirmations about Jesus.  What was Jesus' self-understanding?
