20120527 Reatha Update

Dear Ownbey Family,


CONCERNS
Those of us at church today were shocked to learn that FRANK GOSSETT suffered a massive heart attack yest'y morning while working in his backyard and died.  With the church being closed tomorrow, i'm not sure when any updates will be posted on the church website, but will let you know funeral plans as soon as i hear something. Syd told those of us who are not charter class members that Frank was our class' FIRST president, back in the early 1950s  :-) We send our prayers out to JOYCE and their family. Joyce Gossett
JOYS: 1.  ANN COPELAND returned to church today -- to both CITR and Ownbey Class  :-)    When i recognized her in class during my H&H report, she received applause.  Welcome back, Anne! 2.  CAROL NEEDY has a new grandson!  CATHERINE and RICHARD GIBBS have adopted BLAKE whose 9th b'day was today.  And CHRISTIAN is THRILLED to have a "big" brother -- just one year older than himself.  Congrats all around! 3.  HARRIETTE and SYD were back from Indiana where they attended the graduation (HS?) of granddaughter Alice(?).  [we have met Alice before when she visited w/her mom, Harriett Moore... so that's why i'm guessing at the name and type of grad'n, relying on my iffy memory...]   4.  And if all goes well, HARRIETTE will be in San Diego next weekend to run her 14th marathon out there.  BRENNY will be running as well -- SYDNOR III WON'T be participating this year due to his training for his pending deployment to Afghanistan for a year.
LESSONS: 1.  We enjoyed ACE's opening presentation today of N.T.Wright's book, SIMPLY JESUS, and had some lively discussion.  We will explore more of the book (and some of the questions raised today) in coming months. 2.  DURWARD alluded to his upcoming lesson re Heaven in a question he had for Ace today.  In fact, Durward will be leading our lesson NEXT Sunday on that very topic.
MISC: I've taken ANNE LUMADUE's suggestion about getting cards for homebound or long-absent members to fruition.  Today i brought 3 cards for ELLEN CHASON, JANE PIXLEY, and DOTTIE TOBIAS for folks to sign.  I plan on bringing in 3 more cards next week for another group of our friends.  I'll have them on the table at the back of the room for you to sign.
