I won't ask you to read Revelation. It's too scary. But look at the following outline in preparation for our discussion.

Reatha started the class with a reading by Anonymous on Mommy-isms - "If you open it, close it . . .if you make a mess, clean it up , etc." The Adults Plus meeting Wednesday is on Bonsai. We were asked to start signing up for the Wednesday June 12 Charlotte Cafe outing. Mentioned again that we have cycled through sending cards to all missing members, and decided now to send "get well" cards to appropriate members Someone suggested need to send one to every one! Also sending birthday cards. We learned James' Sabbatical ends June 17, though he was here for wife's dance Thursday night. Can check his blog if you want to know more of this mystery tour. He has been to Scotland for some of the time with two of his college buddies. The Thompsons and Lumadues received applause - Sydnor the 3rd has been promoted recently to Captain in the Navy; last week we heard he was coming back to USA and will be minister at MYERS MEMORIAL Methodist in Gastonia. Ann Lumadue received the Larose Grant Award ( Here's link ) after 27 years in the Charity League. It is the highest honor of the Charlotte Charity League. Reatha's son in law received his MBA from Wingate last week. Her ex is having back problems (spinal sclerosis). Darcey, daughter of the Thompsons, had 2 children graduate from UNC Charlotte also. Reatha visited Dottie last week and Dottie was doing well; she experienced a seizure earlier in week. Several of Dottie's children and grandchildren are around. Someone asked about Martha and learned they had been at class last week (and Lou played golf) so they seem better. Reatha lead the lesson on Proverbs as Poetry.
May 05 -- CONVERSATION WITH SUSAN MOBLEY -- led by Don H.
Reatha started the class with some readings recognizing those of us who are older. Don R commented on the doughnuts and the Pasta Pot which held the doughnuts. Daughter Sally, a Duke graduate, gave the Carolina Blue Pot to Don for his birthday . For a recording and Sally, the class applauded. Reatha mentioned the Every Women Banquet this week, the Adults Plus program on the Art of Bonsai in a couple of weeks, and the Woman's Retreat in a couple of months. Sydnor III is to return from Afghanistan in June and will be minister at Myers Methodist in Gastonia. Before Afghanistan he was in Morganton. We were glad to see Lou and Martha back. Carol is at the beach as are Ann and Ken. Jim and Nancy in Arkansas. Reatha was a little sick today but still ran things well. Amanda went to Emergency Room recently with some pains but was baby on kidney and feels better now. Willard thanked class for calls to Virginia and asked we let him know too, The class appreciates Anne L for her work with the cards, and we agreed with a suggestion to switch to sending birthday cards signed by the class instead of to missing in action members (as we now have been through the roster). At 5pm the Choir is to present some of their work to be used on their London trip in a couple of weeks. Dates for the Summer gatherings of the class at the Charlotte Cafe are the first Wednesdays in each month. The lesson was presented as a conversation between Susan Mobley, Don H, and the class on the Health Care activities at MPUMC. At the end of the class, Susan received a burst of applause for the session and what she has done at our church since the first days of the new millennium.

May 26 ESTHER -- led by Eleanor
Reatha started the class with a reading by Anonymous on"Do I Really need Facebook." Grace is an inspiration at Epworth as she deals with the loss of her eye. She likes to hear from folks and would appreciate calls from us. Bob Grogan's surgery went well we hear. Bobbie Phillips passed away this week, she was not a member of Ownbey but was a friend of many. Linda and Mary Katherine had a good visit with Dottie; Larry (home from India) Sissy, and Billy were there. It was mentioned that Linda graduated from completed her fifth Disciple Class last week, all of the long ones! Synnor arrives back to Richmond next Saturday and the Thompsons are going to be there to greet him.The Adults Plus! outing at the McIntoshes is Wednesday June 12 ($5) and that night is our outing at Charlotte Cafe, sign up for both. Don Hammer told of a 6 week class on "Violence in America-What can I do." on 10-1130 on Tuesday and 7- 830 on Wednesdays beginning 6/18 and 6/19. Eleanor then made her recent debut as our Teacher as she shared the story of Esther. See pictures and recordings at links.
May 19 ON GOD'S SIDE -- by J.Wallace -- led by Chick
Reatha started the class saying May 19 is an ancient " Well Dressing Day" with "Well" where water is and was a day to be thankful for water. So the "Word" for the day Water as she listed a variety of Water related expressions.See Choir off this Thursday as they go to England. Having combined SS class at 9 45 in the Chapel on Project Agape next week. During the Summer classes that do not meet will be have a come-together for a few minutes and then go off to classes. We are continuing our method of classes.. Bukers had much family news of graduations and such but I cannot hear it well on the tape. Christina has visited Grace and reported. Anne C and Reatha reported on Dottie. Cards for Birthdays and get well to be signed. Chick led the lesson on a book by J Wallace which he liked and hoped we would later use for other chapters,

20130506-Update from Reatha
1. Thx again to SUSAN MOBLEY for talking w/us yest'y about her role as Parish Nurse and Health Coach... and about Care Teams and our church's Health Ministry.
2. Found out today that DOTTIE TOBIAS suffered a seizure this weekend and was taken to the hospital (of course). Called SISSY tonight, and she was just getting ready to head out to go get Dottie -- she was to be discharged c.9:00 or so. I'll know more later this week -- i'm due to visit w/Dottie this Friday.
3. I also called RICK ELKINS to check on his mom. He said that they are trying to get GRACE into a single room in the asst'd living area at Aldersgate.
4. Both Wilma and Don R recently heard from BOB GROGAN. Bob has been feeling lousy for the past 5 months. Finally found what they think is the cause: tumor on his colon, and yes, it IS cancerous. Surgery is planned for May 22d. ALSO... Marilea is in constant hip pain -- hurts to stand AND sit -- might be sciatic nerve pblm, too. Hopefully after tending to Bob, she'll take action re her OWN health!
5. During class yest'y, WILLARD asked us to do him this favor: since VIRGINIA's short-term memory is now NON-existent, if you call and chat w/her, would you please follow-up w/a short note, rehashing what you talked about? Not only can Virginia enjoy the note, but Willard can converse w/her about your phone topics :-)
6. My weekend malaise has morphed into sinus pblms -- i just had a sneezing fit to emphasize the point.
7. We were happy to have LOU and MARTHA BLEDSOE back w/us in class yest'y; they are feeling much better. And FRED and MARTHA SADRI were back, too! CRIS HALPERN was feeling well enough to return :-) Got the word that CAROL NEEDY was at the beach -- her yearly get-together w/her "Womb-to-Tomb" group :-) And KEN and ANNE BUKER are also at the beach (for a week). Saw ARLYENE ARMSTRONG at the choir's Royal Concert -- she wisely chose attending that glorious event over attending SS in the morning.
8. Learned from facebook that after SYDNOR, III, returns stateside from Afghanistan (in June), he'll be packing to move to Gastonia (from Morganton). He'll be serving Myers Memorial UMC off New Hope Rd. And even tho' they aren't members of our SS class, many of you know Dr.DAVID BAKER and wife BETSY -- Betsy's parents, JOHN and CALLA BOLEN were members of Ownbey. Just found out (again, via fb) that DAVID, JR, has been accepted at med school at ECU, and daughter, Rev. ELAINE (BAKER) HALL, will be moving back to NC w/her family after annual conference. She'll be pastoring a UMC in Boone and also the one in Valle Crucis :-) W/their eldest (ELIZABETH MIZZELLE) living in Raleigh, all their kids will be back in NC!
