Date:Mon, 25 Apr 2011 20:36:46 EDT From:Reatha Andrew To:Class
Dear Ownbey Family,
1. Hope each of you had a glorious Easter!
2. Did you see the article in Sunday's OBSERVER about Jimmy Jones and his recent family tragedy? Despite all that has happened, Jimmy said: "In the end, there is hope."
3. In case you haven't been in class the past two Sundays or have not been reading the class blog which Don R. so lovingly keeps updated, you might not know: our planned picnic scheduled for this coming Saturday (Apr. 30th) has been CANCELED.
4. However, our NEXT planned event, a trip uptown to the Bechtler, is still "on." Our Planner-Extraordinaire, Durward Owen, has outdone himself on this one! Here's the plan: we'll leave the PLB parking lot after Sunday school (c.11am - so go to "early church") via church minibus (and Durward's van) and go to the Bechtler -- admission fee has already been paid -- for a guided tour. Then we'll get lunch there -- your only cost; choose from their menu (which Durward will post this Sunday). We should return to the church around 3:30. BTW: there is elevator access between floors. We changed the leave time b/c Durward's orig 11:30 would be a long wait after SS ends... He and I debated as to whether folks would like to go home and change clothes, but then you run the risk (even at 11:30) of someone getting caught in traffic (or something) and not getting back in time. The change from 3:00 to 3:30 ... Since I wasn't sure of the time folks might take in looking around, I went w/the later time. After some back-n-forth about the date, we have decided on SUNDAY, MAY 29th. [yes, we know that that is Memorial Day weekend, but on Sunday the 22d, the musical production (IT'S SHOWTIME!) combining ALL the church choirs, will be presented) -- several of us in Ownbey will be involved in that]
5. So, please, either call Durward or email him ASAP to let him know of your availability in attending our outing on the 29th. [if we have a large turn-out, we'll need to use two church minibuses -- both Jim and I are authorized drivers]
Thanks so much,Reatha - Mon - 8:30pm
P>S>> And mark your calendars now for our summer plans:
we're going back to the CHARLOTTE CAFE` -- each 2d Wednesday during June, July, August -- 6pm.

20110424 Easter Services with Readings by Reatha
THIS IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Class Notes: (I asked Reatha, Durward, and Jack to help edit but would appreciate help from others too, thanks)
In Ownbey Sunday School, Jack presided. He asked that something from Ken G be put on Bulletin Board (Jack, please tell me what it was and I will edit this). Jack thanked Bob and Reatha for help with our music. Durward announced an outing Sunday May 29(changed); Details: (1) we will ride a bus driven by Jim H and a van by Durward to the (2) Bechtler Museum (of modern and contemporary art)
, (3) leaving the church parking lot at 11:00(changed), (4) dropped off at front door for Lunch at new Mint Museum Uptown, tour, return to parking lot we leave from and at Queens by 3:30p.m (Changed). (5) Restaurant at new Mint Museum Uptown is rated one of top 10 in Charlotte (6) Meal cost depends on choices but "reasonable" with local foods (7) 22 slots, sign up next Sunday May 01. Durward reported we will have dinner outings in June, July, and August. Details: (1) Charlotte Cafe at 6 p.m. (2) Second Wednesday of each month, 93) Sign up later. Durward also encouraged us to consider each Sunday parking at Myers Park Traditional School at 2132 Radcliffe Ave
and riding bus to church; checking to see if continues after Easter. A reminder that the Class Picnic for April 30 has been canceled. Reatha noted we need to arrange that the chairs not be placed along the wall in front of the bulletin board. She reported Happiness in that her sister Claire, daughter Amanda, and Amanda's husband John were visiting. Reatha then presented the class in the form of Easter Readings. Don Hammer gave out an Ownbey Class Curriculum Survey and asked us to review for later discussion. Sydnor mentioned today is Harriette's last day singing with the choirs. Recently three people earned money for Helping Hands by taking Computer Courses at Southminister. Also, Carol D suggested I share with the class the following computer class info:
