On July 2, during the 9:45 Sunday School hour, all are welcome to Francis Chapel
when we host special guest, Rev. Sam Om. Sam is a United Methodist missionary serving
in Cambodia. His faith journey and call to mission is dramatic and compelling. He
was born into a Buddhist family in Cambodia, fled North Vietnam invasion to Thailand,
was introduced to Christianity in a refugee camp there and eventually emigrated
to the US by way of the Philippines. Come hear more about Sam and our denomination's
ministry in his native land.

20170629 Reatha Updates

Dear SS Family,

An update from GAYE (BOOTH) is found below  :-)

Also heard from RUTH FOUSHEE, ANNE BUKER's daughter:
Anne has moved to Brookdale Churchill, an independent living facility, in Mooresville so that she'll be closer to Ruth and GILES' lake house (since they spend most of their time there now).  Anne has an apartment at Brookdale, and her address is:
ANNE BUKER

Brookdale Churchill
See email

And i'd like to CORRECT my boo-boo from the last email i sent.  I was sitting at the computer in the church library after class last Sunday, wracking my brain in trying to remember CAROL NEEDY's husband's name...  All my fuzzy memory could come up with was that his name was the same as another class member's... so... i guessed WRONGLY and typed "Bill"... when it should have been JACK Needy!  I apologize.

Remember that THIS Sunday we'll be meeting in Francis Chapel to hear Cambodian missionary, SAM OM.  Perhaps you got an email from the church about him:  he's a UMeth missionary, altho' he was born into a Buddhist family in Cambodia.  He fled to Thailand during the N.Vietnam invasion and was introduced to Christianily in a refugee camp there.  He eventually emigrated to the US via the Philippines.
[i'll try to take roll... prob. standing/sitting near the back...]

And Sun the 9th, we'll be back in our room, w/the lesson being led by MARY KATHERINE VASS.
We're still lining up lessons for the rest of July and August -- perhaps on July 23d we can have "Christmas in July"... maybe having a carol sing...

JULY BIRTHDAYS
Sat 1st - Janet Myers
Sun 9th - Jim Sayrs
Wed 19th - Ace Walker -- has anyone heard if his AZ home is near the fires???
Fri 21st - Carolyn Reeder (93!)
Sun 23d - Cal Chesson
Fri 28th - Ann Howard
Sat 29th - Virginia Martin

Peace,
Reatha - Th - 4pm

Hey Reatha

Just wanted to thank everyone for praying for me.  The bronchoscopy went well.  The doctor took some biopsies, and we will hear the results next week.  Other than having a scratchy throat I am doing well.  He put me back on prednisone and will see the endocrinologist on Friday to deal with the high blood sugars.  Thanks again! Gaye

20170625 Reatha Update: .. Gaye .. Donna .. Frank and Pat .. Martha and Lou .. Marie .. Chip Billings .. Lessons

Dear SS Family,

GAYE (BOOTH) sent the prayer request (found below) on Fri night, but i didn't open emails till yest'y.  At that time, i was using my phone and couldn't access our entire class mailing list, so i'm sending it now (after announcing it in SS this morning).  We are indeed keeping her in our prayers and wishing her the best.

Speaking of which... DONNA SAVELL wasn't in class today.  DENNIS didn't say anything during class, but i learned afterward that she's home, taking antibiotics for some sort of infection -- feeling a little bit better today -- so we wish HER well.

Forgot to say in the earlier email that FRANK CULBRETH was able to come to SS last week  :-)    He said that PAT is NOT doing too well. Same for LOU BLEDSOE, saying that MARTHA was having mobility issues.  We send our love to them, as well.

Other members we've been missing and we send our love to include... ARLYENE ARMSTRONG and ANNE BUKER.

Some GOOD news:  MARIE PEARCE is recuperating from her hip replacement surgery -- still at Asbury, but hoping to return to her "place" later this week.  She said there is still a bit of pain, but nothing like before!

We were pleased that CHARLES (CHIP) BILLINGS was able to join us today.  Sounds like he MIGHT be interested in officially joining our class -- we used to have his name on our hand-written list, since he would "drop in" from time to time when his class wasn't meeting.  [for you "Genesis folk"... Chip's mom and step-dad, CAROL and BILL NEEDY, were Ownbey members for many years]

Next Sunday, we'll meet in Francis Chapel for church-wide class to hear Cambodian missionary Sam Om. Then on July 9th, MARY KATHERINE VASS will lead our class, back in our usual room.

Peace, Reatha - Sun - 11:30am

20170623 Reatha's Update - Lesson John . . Marie...Harriette . . Mary Katherine . . Light Rail . . Anne Lumadue

Dear Genesis-Ownbey Family,

This Sunday we will wrap up the Adam Hamilton dvd/book JOHN - THE GOSPEL OF LIGHT AND LIFE. If you get a chance, read John, chapters 20-21, in preparation.  It (obviously) involves the resurrection.

MARIE PEARCE had her R hip replaced in successful surgery over a week ago.  Not sure if she's been able to return to her apartment at Aldersgate yet or if she's still recuperating in nearby Asbury facility.

Can't remember if i had mentioned in an email that not only did HARRIETTE complete the half-marathon out in San Diego the other week -- as i'm sure you saw in LOTS of press coverage -- but MARY KATHERINE did well in the Senior Games, bringing home 2 gold, 1 silver, a 4th place, and a 6th place in her various swimming events!

Twenty of us had a fun time at Light Rail Restaurant a week ago Wednesday.  [Harriette had planned on coming but then got "called" to UNC-CH for an award.]  Mark you calendars for the 2d Wed in July and Aug for our other Summer Suppers there.

We were THRILLED that ANNE LUMADUE was able to come to SS last Sunday!  She's been missing us as much as we've missed her.  We wish her continued improvement in her health.

Peace, Reatha - Fri - 9:30am

Reatha - Please pass this on to all in Sunday School Class if you can please.

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and grandfathers in our Sunday School Class!

This Sunday, June 18, 2017, our Sunday School Lesson will center around the Rev. Adam Hamilton Video on John's Gospel narrative on "The Arrest, Trial, and Cruxifixction of Jesus."  We will watch the video, then discuss what it means and what are its implications for us today.
I request the class members take just 15 minutes if they can and read the scriptures shown below sometime before Sunday morning.  Thank you.

John 13: 18-38

John, Chapters 15-19

Thank you .

Best regards,

Dennis Savell

P.S.  It was great enjoying supper and fellowship with the class at the Light Rail Restaurant Wednesday night.

Dear SS Family,

I'll be Presiding Officer for the month of June.  [if anyone can help w/that in July or August, just let me know]

For all but the first, you should read verses before/after the "I AM" verse to get the context (obviously).
